I was introduced to the art of John Currin years ago. What initially drew me to his work was the above painting. The subject of the painting looks just like the girl I dated all though college, who was also an artist. I went to New York a few years ago and visited the Whitney. To my surprise they had a Currin exhibit and it was wonderful. What brought him up again, recently, is that the actor in Mike Brune's The Adventure is also named John Curran, but with an "A" instead of an "I". I realized this connection today.

I always liked John Curran too. So many artists seem to shy away from realism today in favor of abstraction or conceptualism. Not that his paintings look real or anything, but he gets back to the faces and figures and expressions.
yeah. they are like realistic caricatures. I'm surprised that he veered into doing the really sexually graphic work, which seems like the place artists go when the run out of ideas, but it's still captivating, nonetheless.
