Art Star

I saw a documentary tonight titled, Guest of Cindy Sherman. It was made by a guy who dated her for just over 5 years. He was there and did a Q&A, slightly high/drunk/eccentric(pick one). The doc was sloppy and not well put together. Probably a nice guy, but not that interesting as a character to watch it a film. It seemed as though he thought being insecure in a relationship was something groundbreaking. Welcome to life Paul H-O. I was still fascinated, however. Cindy Sherman is in it and they briefly chronicle her life and the art world she eventually dominated. I learned that Julian Schnabel painted before doing films and he was an asshole and a part of a machismo-style art fraternity. The film shows Cindy in her apartment taking photographs of herself for an upcoming exhibit. Her process is shown and it is so simple yet completely wonderful. It confirmed a lot of how I feel about art and its "purpose", and also why Cindy Sherman is one of my favorite artists. So I called her tonight after the film and we talked and, yes, we are married. Cindy Pinney. Get used to it.
